Want to make an impact at the national level for child health and pediatric nursing practice?
  
The Institute of Pediatric Nursing (IPN), a standing committee of the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB), is recruiting for one new volunteer committee member: School-Based Nurse Representative, to continue its exciting work on strategic issues affecting the profession.
  
Who should apply?
The IPN invites applications from PNCB-certified pediatric nursing professionals with in-depth experience in school-based nursing. Health policy, advocacy, and/or legislative experience is a plus but not required. School-based RNs and APRNs are welcome to apply and may hold a PNCB certification or a school nurse certification. The IPN values and seeks diverse leadership as defined by race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, religion, age, sexual orientation, nationality, disability, appearance, geographic location, and professional level. We encourage leaders from all types of pediatric nursing settings, regions, and a multitude of diverse life experiences and backgrounds to apply. 
  
Ideal IPN applicants possess the following attributes:

  • Demonstrated leadership commitment and involvement with pediatric nursing organizations and/or the pediatric nursing community. 
  • Engagement in nursing trends and passion about strengthening all roles that touch pediatrics.
  • Relevant expertise in the disciplines of pediatric nursing. 
  • Commitment to one distance meeting a month, one in-person meeting a year, and time to devote to assigned activities to move forward the strategic priorities of the committee. Monthly time commitment is estimated to be 5 hours. Access the IPN Committee member role description here.
  • Positive leadership attributes; emotional intelligence; ability to work collaboratively and engage in appropriate debate and discussion when needed.
  • Visionary and strategic thinker; demonstrated ability of new and innovative ideas and/or programs within their sphere of influence, incorporating strategy, leadership, future focus, and risk taking.

What is the IPN?
The Institute of Pediatric Nursing was established by PNCB in 2009 with a mission to promote a unified voice for pediatric nursing. The purpose of the IPN is to optimize the health and well-being of children, youth, and their families through the development of a sustainable, highly qualified pediatric nursing workforce. In the past several years, the IPN has: 

  • disseminated research on pediatric nurses’ concerns for the future and presented the findings at NAPNAP and SPN conferences.
  • launched the highly successful Campaign for Pediatric Nursing with Kick-start Your Pediatric Nursing Career tools for faculty and students.
  • initiated and facilitated the work of other pediatric nursing organizations on Choosing Wisely topics specific to our specialty.
  • provided resources for faculty, students, and others on the IPN website that reflect the IPN’s commitment to pediatric nursing.
  • announced new work priorities that will establish PNCB as the convener of organizations with a focus on pediatric healthcare and will support the pediatric nursing workforce pipeline by communicating the value of the specialty, fostering inclusion, and developing leaders.

 

What does a member do?

  • Serves a 3-year term beginning July 1, 2023 (a second term may be available)
  • Participates in 1 face-to-face committee meeting per year 
  • Participates in monthly conference calls
  • Serves on a task force dedicated to a strategic initiative

 

IPN committee members are enthusiastic, highly engaged volunteers with robust experience and a deep commitment to pediatric nursing. Read about current members. Each IPN committee member represents an area of expertise and serves with others to facilitate successful implementation of the IPN objectives. Members volunteer for specific tasks based on writing skills that support dissemination, networking and making connections, providing insights into the current state of pediatric nursing, and idea generation that addresses future pediatric nursing challenges.
